During Developmental Disability Awareness Month, we celebrate the strengths, talents, and achievements of people with developmental disabilities—while also recognizing the importance of reliable supports that make full community participation possible.

At Specialized Health Services, Inc., we’ve served individuals with developmental disabilities and mental health challenges since 1985 through compassionate care, life skills training, and supportive programs that build independence and community connection.

Why it matters

Inclusion doesn’t happen by accident. It takes consistent services, trusted staff, safe spaces where people can grow—day after day, and it’s the daily moments that help people thrive: Building independence through routine and life skills, feeling safe with consistent support and growing confidence

Here’s How You Can Help Right Now

One of the most immediate needs behind the scenes is our roof at VISTAS Home—our Level 4b residential facility providing 24/7 care and therapeutic programs for adults with developmental disabilities.

The roof has reached the end of its service life. Leaks and deteriorating shingles now threaten the safety of the building and the comfort of the residents and staff who rely on it every day. We’re raising funds for a complete re-roof so VISTAS Home remains safe, dry, and stable.
